I never wanted to be part of a health care system where I felt hushed and ignored.
And yet, over the decades, I’ve found myself in some of the most surprising places: alternative birth centers and home births, pharmaceutical discovery labs, behind the scenes of clinics and hospital wards, and at the bedsides of the unseen in long-term care facilities. Looking back, I’m amazed at the arc of my journey—from the natural health movements of the 1970s to the evidence-based rigor of scientific and medical domains. Now, once again, I’m standing at a new threshold. This one is called functional health—where common sense and science begin to work together rather than in opposition.
Throughout it all, one thing has remained constant: patients are too often unseen and unheard. But here’s the shift—I’ve now been on both sides. I’ve lived as both patient and provider. And that dual perspective has given me a unique view of what’s broken, what’s possible, and what’s essential.
I’ve witnessed firsthand the blind spots that plague everyone in the system. There’s no one-size-fits-all solution. No miracle fix. But there is one undeniable truth: the patient is the beating heart of all health care. Without the patient, there is no prescription to write, no surgery to perform, no care to deliver.
That’s why I created Health Keepers United.
This newsletter is my offering—a space for those who want to see more clearly, listen more deeply, and navigate more wisely. It’s for patients, providers, and caregivers alike. Together, we’ll uncover the traps and blind spots that wedge us apart—and learn ways to move toward greater trust, understanding, and collaboration.
